Why it is worth knowing
- “Perfect peace” (Hebrew: shalom shalom) is emphatic: doubly complete wholeness
- The “steadfast” mind means fixed, leaning, depending on him
- Peace is not achieved through circumstances but through orientation toward God
- Trust is the active component, not passive resignation but confident reliance
Where it sits: Isaiah 26:3-4
You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you. Trust in Yahweh forever; for in Yah, Yahweh, is an everlasting Rock.

Background
Isaiah 26 is a song of praise from the redeemed community looking back on God’s faithfulness. The Hebrew “shalom shalom” is one of the most powerful peace formulas in Scripture: the doubling intensifies it to complete, comprehensive wellbeing. The condition (a mind “steadfast” toward God) pictures leaning against a rock for support. The city described in this chapter is contrasted with the proud cities that fall; the city with God as its foundation endures. Peace is the fruit of trust, and trust grows through knowing God’s character.
